Hyaluronidase is an FDA-approved enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid (HA), the active gel in Juvederm and other HA-based dermal fillers. The brand name we use is Hylenex, a pharmaceutical-grade recombinant hyaluronidase. When injected directly into a filler deposit, it begins dissolving the HA within minutes — visible softening usually appears within 24–48 hours, with full results at 1–2 weeks once swelling resolves and your body has metabolized the broken-down product.

Hyaluronidase is the standard of care for both cosmetic correction and emergency reversal of vascular complications. At Reviv Beauty, every dissolving treatment is performed under Clarius L20 HD3 ultrasound guidance for precision and safety.

Most injectors do hyaluronidase blind — injecting where they think the filler is and hoping for the best. The problem: filler migrates, sits at unexpected depths, and looks the same as inflammatory nodules on the surface. Blind dissolving risks degrading your natural HA, missing migrated filler, and treating the wrong substance entirely (PMMA, calcium hydroxylapatite, and silicone don’t respond to hyaluronidase).

The Clarius L20 HD3 high-frequency ultrasound visualizes the filler in real time before, during, and after the enzyme injection. We see exactly what we’re dissolving, target it precisely, and confirm complete resolution at the 2-week follow-up. Ultrasound is included with every dissolving treatment at Reviv Beauty.

Filler dissolving starts with a $150 ultrasound evaluation. The scan plus your first vial totals $325; additional vials are $175 each. Straightforward lip dissolves are also $175 per vial with a complimentary visual assessment (no scan needed for most lips), as are touch-up vials with a current ultrasound map on file. If the scan shows nothing to dissolve, the $150 evaluation is all you pay.

Most patients need 1–3 vials depending on the volume and location of filler. A small migration in one area may need just 1 vial; full lip reset typically 1–2 vials; multiple-area corrections 2–3+ vials. Straightforward lip filler dissolving is $175 per vial at Reviv Beauty. Kristen assesses lips visually at your free consultation — ultrasound usually isn’t needed for simple lip dissolves — and you only pay if we treat. Complex or migrated lip filler starts with the $150 ultrasound evaluation instead, so scan plus first vial totals exactly $325. Most lip dissolves take one to two vials, and you can safely re-fill about two weeks later.

Hyaluronidase fully dissolves hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, including all Juvederm products (Voluma, Vollure, Volbella, Ultra, Volux), as well as Restylane, RHA Collection, Belotero, Versa, and Revanesse if you had them placed elsewhere.

For Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite), hyaluronidase can partially dissolve the filler off-label by breaking down the carrier gel that holds the CaHA microspheres in place. Multiple sessions may be needed. This is a newer clinical approach and not the original FDA-labeled use.

Hyaluronidase does NOT dissolve Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid), Bellafill (PMMA microspheres), or silicone. For these products, options include corticosteroid injection, laser resurfacing, surgical excision, or waiting for natural absorption. Hyaluronidase can temporarily affect your skin’s native HA in the area where it’s injected, which is one reason precision matters. With blind injection, the enzyme spreads broadly and degrades both the filler AND surrounding healthy tissue — sometimes leaving the area looking thinner or more hollow than before the original filler.

Ultrasound guidance solves this. We target only the filler deposit, leaving native HA largely intact. Even if some native HA is briefly affected, your body replenishes it within 24–48 hours through normal metabolic processes — there is no permanent loss of natural volume. The risk of hollowing comes from removing the filler that was holding the area up, not from the enzyme itself.

Discomfort is mild and brief. We apply topical lidocaine numbing for 15–20 minutes before treatment, which makes the injection feel similar to your original filler — a brief sting at the needle entry, then minimal sensation. The Clarius ultrasound itself is painless (it’s an external probe with conductive gel).

Mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites is normal for 1–3 days after treatment. Most patients return to normal activities the same day. Rare side effects include allergic reaction (more common in people with bee/wasp venom allergies — tell your provider during consultation), localized inflammation, or transient asymmetry as the enzyme works. Severe reactions are uncommon when treatment is performed by an experienced injector.

Yes — many patients do exactly that. Most of our dissolving patients come in to reset, then return 2–4 weeks later to have Kristen-Anne re-treat them with proper technique. Some prefer to stay natural after seeing what their face looks like without filler — that’s also fine.

The 2–4 week wait allows tissue to fully settle, swelling from the dissolving treatment to resolve, and the enzyme to completely clear. Re-treating too early can lead to unpredictable results because residual hyaluronidase activity may partially dissolve the new filler. We confirm complete dissolution at your 2-week follow-up ultrasound before scheduling any new injectable treatment.

It happens more often than you’d think. HA fillers metabolize naturally over 6–24 months (faster in high-movement areas like lips), so by the time some patients book a dissolve, the ultrasound shows little or nothing left to treat. That’s exactly why every appointment starts with the scan: if there’s nothing to dissolve, we show you the screen, explain what you’re actually seeing — often residual swelling, scar tissue, or your own anatomy — and the $150 evaluation is all you pay. If your filler is too fresh and still settling, we’ll tell you honestly and book you at the right time instead.

For most patients, no. Hyaluronidase has been used in medicine for decades with a very low allergic reaction rate. We screen during your consultation by reviewing your medication and allergy history.

A patch test is recommended if you have a known severe allergy to bee or wasp stings, since hyaluronidase shares structural similarities with venom enzymes. Patients with a history of anaphylaxis to insect stings, or those who’ve had unexplained reactions to previous filler treatments, should mention this during the consultation. The patch test takes about 15 minutes — we apply a small amount of Hylenex subcutaneously and observe for 20 minutes for any reaction before proceeding with the full treatment.

The Tyndall effect is a bluish or grayish discoloration that appears under the skin when hyaluronic acid filler is placed too superficially. It’s most common in the tear-trough area under the eyes, where the skin is thin and translucent. The bluish tint isn’t the filler itself — it’s how light scatters as it passes through the gel near the surface.

Ultrasound-guided dissolving is the safest way to correct it. The Clarius L20 HD3 visualizes the filler at depth, so we can target only the superficial portion causing the discoloration without dissolving deeper filler that’s providing legitimate volume. Most patients see the bluish tint fade within 24–48 hours after one targeted dissolving session.

That’s most of our dissolving patients. Many people don’t love how their first injector left them — migration, asymmetry, overfilling, lumps — and come to us to reset. There’s no judgment about where you had it done. Our job is to help you correct what you don’t love, not critique someone else’s work.

Bring whatever records you have: filler brand, syringes used, date of treatment, area treated. Vascular occlusion is a rare but serious filler complication where injected product blocks a blood vessel. Without rapid treatment, the consequences range from skin necrosis (tissue death) to permanent vision loss when arteries supplying the eye are involved. Symptoms include sudden blanching, severe pain, blue-gray skin discoloration, and in serious cases vision changes.

Hyaluronidase is the standard of care for emergency reversal. Injected into and around the affected vessel, it dissolves the obstructing filler quickly enough to restore blood flow before tissue damage becomes permanent. Time is tissue: outcomes are best when hyaluronidase is administered within the first hour.
